James-

Well it all just depends on what you want, and what you want to do with it. If your looking to build a classic road truck, the King Hauler would be a good choice... this is also a good truck to convert to a day cab if that is what your wanting. If you want something conventional with the integrated sleeper look, the Knight Hauler would be a good choice- happens to be my favorite, I own three of them. So once you have a plan, then you can choose a truck. If your plan is to just rip open the box and build it stock, you can go with any of the Tamiya trucks. There is also the Scania and MB trucks as well, if your looking for a foreign truck. The King builds into an excellent Pete 359, or 379... or a KW W900. The Knight is actually almost a Freightliner Coronado, only difference on the model version is the front light set-up I am sure because Tamiya either couldnt, or wouldnt get the licensing to build the truck to specs.

If you decide on a Knight or King, http://www.towerhobbies.com is probably the most popular choice for buying. If you sign up and join their super saver club, you get free shipping on orders over $150, and most of the time they have $30.00 off an order of $300.00 or more, and as long as you dont live in Illinois or Nevada you pay no sales tax... so the savings are substantial versus walking into a hobby store and buying a kit- if you can even find a local shop that stocks or will order one of these trucks for you.

Good luck with your decision, and if you have any other questions please let us know!

Jerry

i buy my trucks and trailers in hong kong
i save a fortune this way
i'm located in canada and for me to buy US, is far more expensive than buying elsewhere
plus from the US,i get nailed every time with hidden border fees driving the price up even more

Welcome to the board James.
The King Hauler is a good truck for a starter or to custom.
you can use a 2 chanel radio, you wont be able to shift. a 4 chanel would be a wiser choice if you plan on use a sound unit. I have been using a 3 chanel traxxas raido, change the high/low switch to a on/off/on 3 posion switch. works good.
one thing i recomend is a 2.4ghz radio, here is a link to explain the diffdifference between am, fm, and 2.4, http://www.rcgawker.com/2009/07/all-abo ... -spectrum/
hope this helps, you'll have building your first truck, and we willl have fun watching.
